Services to Schools and Local Authority Departments.

The Glowworm name has been associated with school supply for over 30 years. As an approved and experienced Local Authority Supplier under the Scotland Excel Book Supply Contract, Glowworm can offer the following services:

Book Supply. We can meet all of your school's requirements for text books, library books, reference books, audio books, CD ROM's and DVD's. Orders can be placed by post, telephone, fax or e-mail. Delivery will normally take 1-2 weeks, however urgent orders can be shipped sooner. Book jackets can be supplied to fit most paperback books, see below for more details on plastic covers and how to specify sizes.

To obtain a quotation you can download and complete an enquiry form, click   to open the file or save it for later (Microsoft Excel format). This form can be e-mailed (.xls format please) or printed and faxed back to us.

Book Search. We can trace any book in print and are able to supply books from almost all UK publishers. We welcome enquiries and will provide you with fast and accurate information.

Book Fairs and Author Visits. Glowworm will tailor bookfairs towards your school's needs. We have a flexible approach and are able to offer the following:- A bookfair lasting from half an hour up to one week. We can provide staff to run the bookfair or, if you prefer, you can arrange to do it yourself. Publicity material to advertise the event can be provided, letters to send home to parents and posters to display in your school. A commission from all bookfair sales is offered to your school. We can also give advice on and help arrange author visits, please contact us for further details.

Book Boxes. Don't waste valuable time poring over catalogues! We can leave book boxes at your school on most project topics for the 5-14 curriculum and general fiction for specific age groups. You can inspect them at your convenience as these boxes can be available to you for up to one week, giving you the chance to have a good look at the books. Please telephone for more information on our book box service.

Showroom. Our single copy resource centre for primary and secondary schools is also available. The books are displayed in purpose racking in one area of the main warehouse. Teachers are welcome to visit us at Broxburn at any time in office hours and at other times by arrangement. Please give us advance warning of your visit by making an appointment. We have a wide range of books; non-fiction is arranged by topic, with particular emphasis on new titles and titles dealing with Scotland. Fiction stock covers from nursery to early teens.

Plastic Jackets.

These plastic jackets are designed to give all round protection to both the cover and the spine. Apart from protecting, they also enhance the appearance and for a modest outlay, the fitting of paperback jackets can offer a monetary reward by greatly extending a books life expectancy.

If jackets are requested at the same time as ordering books, Glowworm will fit them onto each book for you free of charge, you will only be charged for the jacket. We do carry a wide range of sizes in stock for portrait shape paperbacks, there is no minimum order for these 'standard' jackets. We can also supply 'non-standard' jackets for landscape books (in 5 different extended lengths), these carry a minimum order quantity of 100.

The diagram and table below demonstrate how to measure books for jacket selection and the maximum length accommodated for each height of book. Note that the jackets are available in height sizes from 170mm to 300mm in increments of 2mm.
